In 2nd grade Ty didn't qualify for All City. He had to run a mile in less than 8 minutes. He was SO devastated by the reality that he didn't qualify that the next morning, Landon and I were woken up at 6am to a bouncing humming sound. Upon further inspection, we found Ty, on the treadmill, determined to qualify for next year's all city.
Since then Ty has set up multiple goals to help him get faster. He ran a half marathon when he was 8. He tries to go on runs with Landon when their schedules align. He NEVER takes it easy during practice. They run laps at practice and he was always trying to beat his last lap count. 14, 15, 18, 21!
I'd always ask him who he ran with. He'd say "Well I ran with Owen for the first 12 laps but then he'd get tired so he'd slow down and I'd run by myself."
Fast forward 3 years. Ty didn't only qualify for all city, but he took 4th. With a 6:05 mile. Which was the same place Jax took in his all city in elementary!
But Ty is never satisfied. And he is never okay with not continuing to strive. So yesterday he asked us if we could go to the track and if we could pace him. He wanted to beat a 6 minute mile!
So we did. And he beat it! Not just by a few seconds by EIGHT seconds!!!!
A few things I'm learning about Ty is he is NEVER satisfied. He always is striving to become better and more capable. And he has to TRY HARD to do it. But also, he is INSANELY tough.
The kid ran a 5:52 mile and then got up and ran a 2:48 800 meter. Then stepped up to the track one more time and ran a 1:18 400 meter!
I don't know what he's going to do when he's grown up but I know that he will WORK HIS TAIL off to achieve it.
Luke:
He was pretty bummed with his time at all-city. He only PRd by 1 second. It’s tough with a big crowd. Luke loves his friends more than any of our boys have. He reminds me of me when I was growing up!
Brigs:
Love preschool. Did the best job in the primary program!
